Steve Reenders' Bio

Steve   Steve Reenders grew up in a farming family where hunting was a way of life. As blueberry farmers, Steve was always working on the family farm – ever since he was old enough to walk. The same holds true for hunting, he was sleeping in his dad’s blind before he was old enough to hunt. Steve started bowhunting when he was 12 years old. Back then, you weren’t legally allowed to hunt from an elevated platform, so Steve used to hunt from ground blinds on the edges of farm
fields. He explained that when he first started hunting, they would basically shoot at any deer so-long it was within sight, and within about 50 yards. Steve admits that in those days – it was nothing to shoot several arrows per hunt, just hoping to hit something. How times have changed since his early days with a $15.00 recurve that his dad had bought for him used.

While Steve has always been a serious hunter, he admits hunting was never about the “kill” for him. Even though Steve has shot many nice deer in his time, he says just figuring them out is what he enjoys – and the kill is just a bonus. Ever since hooking up with Walter Eastling, Steve has discovered a new love – filming hunts. In the 2006 season, Steve filmed for Wally nearly the entire season, sacrificing his own season in the process to help a friend. Steve became enthralled with capturing the moments forever on-camera – and has continued to grow as a cameraman ever since.

The Reenders Blueberry business has continued to grow, which allows the family to enjoy hunting during their off-season each fall. Steve married his high-school sweet-heart Debbie, and they’ve raised three children; Chad, Katlyn, and Nate. Steve’s kid’s have also enjoyed learning from their father at both the farm, and in the woods when hunting. The Reenders combine they’re love of they’re family with farming, hunting, and life in-general.

Todd’s Comments
One word sticks out in my mind when I think about Steve, “nice”. Steve’s carefree attitude and level-headed thinking is something that has helped both myself and his hunting partner Wally to sometimes just “chill-out”. Steve sacrificed nearly his entire 2006 hunting season to help his partner Wally carry-out his dream of harvesting his first whitetail on-film. There is no-doubt in my mind that Steve is going to be rewarded for his hard work. Steve has also turned into a heck of a cameraman along the way, and I can’t wait to see what he will capture this season. If you ever see a white Ford truck resembling a “Blue-Berry Nightmare” cruising down the road, you’ve just had a run-in with the Tater-baiter himself!
