Shane Wiest’s Bio

Shane Wiest

Shane Wiest grew up in the small town of Cottage Grove, just outside of Madison Wisconsin.  While growing up, Shane was surrounded by hard core whitetail hunters that had a huge influence on his early years of life.  Shane can remember waking up with his dad Jerry, brothers Jeff and Brian, and Uncle Mike.  Shane would go just outside the cabin with his Fred Bear recurve; and fling arrows at anything close, of-course never coming close to hitting anything.

As Shane grew old enough to go hunting, it was Uncle Mike that was sitting with Shane when he arrowed his first buck as a young boy.  Shane says he can still remember “kind-of” field dressing that deer, which Uncle Mike did most of the work on!

It was Shane’s older brother Brian that really motivated him to become a better whitetail hunter.  Shane watched his brother bring home big buck after big buck, year after year.  Shane admits he just wanted to be like his big brother and it was that which drove him to spend as much time hunting with Brian as he could.  He says without Brian’s guidance, he would never have learned half as much about getting close to big bucks!

Most recently, Shane has started a family of his own, with his gorgeous wife Alasa who has become his new hunting partner.  Alasa was actually 2 days away from giving birth to their son “Hunter” (go-figure) when she filmed Shane arrowing his first buck on-camera!  Take a wild guess what Hunter’s first word was?  “Buck”…  I guess it’s fair to say Hunter is going to be following in dad’s foot-steps like Shane did while he was growing up!

Outside of hunting, Shane really likes ……. hunting.  Shed hunting, turkey hunting, and mushroom hunting occupy his off-season.  Outside of hunting, filming whitetails has become one of his biggest passions!  Shane and good friend Jesse Hurley were actually pursuing their own production company “Masterpiece Outdoors”, and until they have the time to produce their own videos, they felt WKP would be a great outlet for them to share their story.

Todd’s Comments
Overall, the best words to describe Shane would be “a nice guy”.  He is a very humble, smiles constantly, and is pretty much just a whitetail nut like the rest of us!  I actually met Shane through mutual friends and WKP team members Andy and Ed Nevar.  I can remember Shane standing in-front of the WKP booth at the Wisconsin Deer show every year since the first time we were there.  It was clear from the beginning, if the Nevar boys were friends with him – he must be a good guy!  I just wish his wife Alasa had a sister!
