Michael Kortman Bio

Mike   Mike Kortman is a 31 year old Michigan native who found his passion for bow hunting thirteen years ago. Mike has been employed at the Tip a Few Tavern and Restaurant for the past sixteen years where he is a bartender and manager. One day a regular customer of his invited him on a weekend bow hunting trip to some state land in northern Michigan. At that point in his life he knew nothing about hunting, but decided it sounded like fun and accepted the offer. That weekend produced great
memories but no deer. Mike knew he had just found something he loved and returned to the woods every chance he had. After a lot of trial and error Mike harvested his first doe.

Since that day he has been on the emotional rollercoaster of bow hunting. With a flexible work schedule and a understanding wife he is able to spend countless hours on stand each season. Over the years he has harvested several does and many bucks. Although Mike has yet to harvest the “one”, he knows with patience and perseverance his day will come.

Todd’s Comments
I met Mikey a couple years back when Wally told me I had to meet this guy. Shortly after, Mikey stopped by my house on a Wednesday night, and I could tell there was just something about this guy that I liked. We continued talking, and it was Mikey’s passion for filming that really got me excited about him. Up-until that time, I hadn’t never been filmed in a hunting situation, so Mikey took several days off work to come and film me in Iowa, my first year ever hunting here. We ended up making it over to Illinois that weekend, and I’ll never forget what happened our first night on-stand. I was half asleep when Mikey spotted a doe coming into view. Within a few seconds, I spotted a big buck closing in on our position. I can still hear Mikey saying “Oh my God” when he first laid eyes on the 160 class Illinois monster!

We ended up getting winded by the buck, and never got a shot. It was the first time I’ve ever had the opportunity to share a hunting experience with anyone, and to this day – it was one of my most exciting moment’s on-stand ever! Later that night Mikey and I must have watched the video of that buck 100 times! We must have also been quite dehydrated from the experience because the liquid refreshments were tasting mighty good eh Mikey?
